Stepping Off The Track

CO, NYC, Chicago, Dominica, Fl, Vermont and NOW staying put for awhile in LA!
We have 2 boys, who are homeschooled, and like all parents we want to support any passions we see arise. Well, they both have a passion to perform. Our older son Keean, on a crazy whim auditioned and got a role in the Broadway Musical "Billy Elliot"! So we sold almost everything (house included) and left our fantastic 15yrs in Colorado and headed to the BIG APPLE! We have been on the move ever since and consider ourselves an everyday family embracing life the best we know how. We tend to do things a little against the grain, but learning all we can along the way! Here's to sticking together as a family and creating an amazing adventure along the way!

Applying for "College"?????

One afternoon, my son Cade comes around the corner asking me how to spell this word and that word? Which I found odd as most of the time he could care less about his "interesting" spelling techniques. He says he is emailing someone important and does not want to misspell anything. I am half paying attention, but go on about my business. The next day he is adamant about checking his email which he has not checked in a year! Odd...so I ask him what he is up to? He says mom I'm applying for "College", and I need to see if I got accepted. Now, my Cade is quite the jokester, so I still do not really pay much attention, but feel I should throw the kid a bone and get some real answers! You have to keep in mind, this is my "free spirit" child who is on his own page, no sense of urgency, total laid back, bright but not much into to doing any extra work, loathes having to spell, busy worksheet work basically likes to do things his way(and in all honesty who doesn't right?) So I ask Cade what he is "really" up to. He tells me he is applying for "College"! He went and googled Game Design Colleges and was corresponding with the administrative office. He sent a long email telling him he was homeschooled etc. and interesting in programming and game design. The guy was actually emailing him back. After lots of back and forth Cade had received all the information he needed, and said he needed to do one more thing. He said he needed to email him back and ask if a 10 yr. old could take the courses! I could not believe it!

There you go another instance of "LETTING GO" and they will find their way....may not be what you want to do, but it is what they want to do!!!! The "college" that Cade applied to is not an accredited college, but it teaches adults the computer programming and game design. It is a 10 week course with quizzes, midterms, and finals. He is adamant he needs to attend! The guy emailed back and said as long as you have parent consent you are more than able to attend! Cade now tells everyone he is going to "COLLEGE"!
