Stepping Off The Track

CO, NYC, Chicago, Dominica, Fl, Vermont and NOW staying put for awhile in LA!
We have 2 boys, who are homeschooled, and like all parents we want to support any passions we see arise. Well, they both have a passion to perform. Our older son Keean, on a crazy whim auditioned and got a role in the Broadway Musical "Billy Elliot"! So we sold almost everything (house included) and left our fantastic 15yrs in Colorado and headed to the BIG APPLE! We have been on the move ever since and consider ourselves an everyday family embracing life the best we know how. We tend to do things a little against the grain, but learning all we can along the way! Here's to sticking together as a family and creating an amazing adventure along the way!

WHY JUDGEMENT?

I was home alone one night and decided to surf the 'ole TV!  Came across "Kate Plus Eight" and was intrigued by this.  I always liked her. I felt she seemed to be real and not afraid to show her flaws, but lately she has not had the best reputation....people saying she is a bad mom, star crazy etc.....  Anyhow, started watching.  While watching, I began to think how "WE" as a society can be sooooooo judgmental.  Believe me, I have been guilty of it as well!  But as I watched this Kate(a mom of 8 no easy task) I saw her just doing the best she knew how...the best for HER family.  Who am I(mom of 2 and married no less) or anyone else to pass a judgement on what works for her?  She made a comment that really hit home for me.  She said, "all I want is to be the best my mom I can be.  Our biggest fear is that we will not be good mom's."  That's it!!! That's it in a nutshell!  We all are trying to do the best we can, but sometimes I feel if we had a little more support and not as much judgement, that fear would not be as bad.  I remember when my kids were little it was non-stop......you breastfeed?  You don't breastfeed?  You work full time? You don't work? You have a cleaning lady? You don't have a cleaning lady? Your going to THAT school? Your Johnny was mean to my Sally(such a bad boy/ bad parents) you're moving your whole family to NYC for your 11 yr old's career ;0) ....the list goes on and on.  I feel us MOMs are all trying to do our very best.  If we could all learn to "agree to disagree" and instead of passing judgement when someone's kids are acting out in public screaming , hitting, biting etc send them some LOVE and support by either a nice smile or kind words of "been there many times"

After taking my kids out of school and moving 4 times in two years to support my older son, Keean, I know there are "those people" who judge our whacky parental style.  On the other hand, there are those people who could not be more supportive.  Our lives may not be for someone else and that is just fine, but it is the best life for us now, and I am going to run with it.  Each day that passes, I realize how those "others" who like to pass judgement are slowly dwindling away from my shoulder.  You know those voices in your ear of "what will they think?"  The "fear" of what others may say?  Don't do it!!! Don't live your life in "fear" of the "others"  all that matters is that YOU like you and the people who like you just the way you are........ crazy, weird decisions and ALL!  So good-bye to JUDGEMENT! Let's try to be more supportive, even if it is not your "way".

INDEPENDENCE!!!

You know you've reached true independence when you send your 10yr old to his own orthodontist appointment........it's either independence, laziness on the parents part or pure bad parenting?????  HMMMMM .......I'm going with INDEPENDENCE!
